CLSU SUPERCOMPUTING FACILITY'S SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDG) COMMITMENT

SDGs is a hallmark pathway towards achieving a better future by 2030. Highlights of the 17 SDGs encompass four main objectives such as stable economic growth (SDG 4, 8, 9, 11, 17), conservation of natural resources (SDG 6, 15), social progress and equality (SDG 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 16), and environmental protection (SDG 12, 13, 14).

CLSU is committed in supporting the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), in line with the university’s vision to become a world-class National Research University for science and technology in agriculture and allied fields. As a university, CLSU is uniquely positioned to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs through research, teaching, and community engagement. The university is committed to integrating the SDGs into its curriculum and research programs and working with partners across sectors to promote sustainable development in the Philippines and beyond. Complementarily, the SCF affirms the university’s intention to support and promote the SDGs through their research, education, operations and external leadership. CLSU's commitment to high-performance computing (HPC) and SDGs reflects its dedication to driving positive change through innovation and collaboration.

High-Performance Computing (HPC) has the potential to drive progress across many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by enabling faster, more accurate modeling and simulation of complex systems. Here are some examples of how HPC can support SDG commitments:

SDG 1 - No Poverty: HPC can be used to model and simulate economic systems to inform policies that reduce poverty and promote economic growth.

SDG 2 - Zero Hunger: HPC can be used to improve agricultural productivity and inform sustainable land use policies to help ensure food security.

SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-being: HPC can be used to improve the understanding of diseases and the development of new treatments and drugs, as well as to inform public health policies. SDG 4 - Quality Education: HPC can be used to create interactive and immersive educational experiences, as well as to model and simulate complex systems for teaching and research.

SDG 5 - Gender Equality: HPC can be used to analyze and model gender-based violence and inform policies to promote gender equality.

SDG 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation: HPC can be used to simulate and model water systems, inform water management policies, and support the development of new water technologies.

SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy: HPC can be used to model and optimize energy systems to inform the development of sustainable and affordable energy solutions.

SDG 8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth: HPC can be used to model and simulate economic systems to inform policies that promote job creation and economic growth.

SDG 9 - Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure: HPC can be used to optimize and improve infrastructure systems, as well as to model and simulate new technologies and innovations.

SDG 10 - Reduced Inequalities: HPC can be used to analyze and model inequalities and inform policies to promote social justice and reduce inequality.

SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities: HPC can be used to model and simulate urban systems to inform sustainable urban development policies.

SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production: HPC can be used to model and simulate supply chains and inform sustainable production and consumption policies.

SDG 13 - Climate Action: HPC can be used to model and simulate climate systems to inform policies that mitigate the impacts of climate change and support the development of sustainable technologies.

SDG 14 - Life Below Water: HPC can be used to model and simulate marine systems to inform policies that promote sustainable management of marine resources.

SDG 15 - Life on Land: HPC can be used to model and simulate ecosystems and inform policies that promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable land use.

SDG 16 - Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions: HPC can be used to model and simulate social systems to inform policies that promote peace, justice, and strong institutions.

SDG 17 - Partnerships for the Goals: HPC can facilitate interdisciplinary collaborations and data sharing to support the achievement of all the SDGs.
